The Zepbound KwikPen

Self-Pay Zepbound for Medical Weight Loss

Introducing the Zepbound Kwikpen!

The Zepbound KwikPen is a new injection device designed to make the weight-loss medication tirzepatide (Zepbound®) more accessible and convenient for patients.

Unlike traditional Zepbound injection pens that contain only a single dose, the KwikPen contains four weekly doses in one device, allowing patients to use the same pen for an entire month of treatment.

This delivery system was introduced to improve access, affordability, and convenience, particularly for patients who may be paying for medication without insurance coverage.

At CNL Medical, we frequently receive questions about this new option. Below is an overview of how the Zepbound KwikPen works and how it compares to the traditional Zepbound injection pens.

Patients can begin treatment from the comfort of home with ongoing medical supervision. We provide services throughout the states of Florida, Alabama, New York and Georgia.

The Zepbound KwikPen is a multi-dose injectable pen that contains approximately one month of tirzepatide medication in a single device.

Instead of receiving four individual injection pens, patients use one pen that delivers four weekly injections.

The pen is designed for single-patient use and is discarded after the fourth dose.

This design is similar to insulin pens used for diabetes and allows patients to dial their dose before each injection.

Zepbound is injected once weekly under the skin (subcutaneous injection).

Before each injection with the KwikPen:

• Attach a new disposable pen needle
• Dial the prescribed dose using the dosing knob
• Inject the medication under the skin

Common injection sites include:

Abdomen

Thigh

Back of the upper arm

Injection sites should be rotated weekly to reduce irritation or skin reactions.

Unused pens should be stored in the refrigerator until they are ready to be used.

Before the KwikPen was introduced, Zepbound was dispensed using single-dose auto-injector pens.

Each of these pens contained one pre-measured weekly dose and was discarded after the injection. These auto-injector pens are notably expensive when paying out of pocket.

The new KwikPen is more cost effective and allows patients to use one pen for four weekly injections, reducing the number of devices needed for monthly treatment.

Key Differences

Traditional Zepbound Pen

• One dose per pen
• Four pens per month
• No needle attachment required
• Very simple one-step injection

Zepbound KwikPen

• Four doses in one pen
• One pen per month
• Requires a disposable pen needle
• Dose must be dialed before injection

Both devices contain the same medication (tirzepatide) and are equally effective for weight loss. The primary difference is how the medication is delivered.

The Zepbound KwikPen was introduced in part to help improve access for patients who do not have insurance coverage for weight-loss medications. Prescriptions are sent to Eli Lilly’s partner pharmacy LillyDirect.

Through the manufacturer self-pay program, some starting doses of Zepbound may begin around $299 per month, although pricing may vary depending on dose strength and pharmacy distribution programs.

Patients should always review the manufacturer’s instructions or receive guidance from their healthcare provider before using the device.

Some patients may also hear about compounded tirzepatide, which may be produced by certain compounding pharmacies.

There are important differences between compounded medications and FDA-approved medications like Zepbound.

Zepbound is manufactured by Eli Lilly and has undergone extensive clinical testing for safety and effectiveness.

Compounding pharmacies are able to provide specific dosages that are not commercially produced, ensuring patients receive the exact strength they require. Beyond dosing, these pharmacies can customize formulations by integrating additional additives, supplements, or secondary medications to tailor the treatment to a patient’s unique health needs

Patients should always discuss medication options with a licensed healthcare provider before starting treatment.

Like all medications, Zepbound can cause side effects.

Common side effects may include:

nausea

vomiting

diarrhea

abdominal discomfort

indigestion

fatigue

Less common but more serious risks may include pancreatitis or gallbladder disease.

Patients should review their medical history and medications with a healthcare provider before starting treatment.
